The Savoy

Strand, London

The restoration of The Savoy was at the time the most ambitious hotel restoration project undertaken in London. Between the time the doors were closed to guests and their re-opening in October 2010, The Savoy was taken back to her early structure, stabilised and given an entirely new services infrastructure.

Internal layouts were rationalised, existing architectural and design gems were carefully restored or replicated and a new lift was introduced, as were new kitchens. Many of the spaces were returned looking just as they did before; other areas were “rediscovered” to become glamorous new spaces.

Most importantly of all, the quintessential spirit and the design heritage of The Savoy were preserved and even enhanced. The Edwardian age - when the hotel was originally built - and the Art Deco period - when it was significantly extended - are now clarified and celebrated to their full.
