The CIPD People Management Awards are one of the most prestigious events on the HR calendar. The Learning and Development category judging panel sought entries that were clear about the business objectives that prompted organisations to focus on creating a learning culture, and the opportunities of developing individuals to influence the success of a common goal.
The Byrne Group's winning entry was praised by the judges because it demonstrated a strong link between learning and development and business growth, as well as excellence in creating an organisational culture where learning can flourish.
Training techniques that used visual images and 3D models was seen as innovative and successful. "Were not just training skills, we're training knowledge", says Byrne Group Health, Safety and Environment Director Michelle Tilley, "Once employees understand what they can do through training, they look further up the ladder to see what they can achieve".
The Byrne Group invests 12.5% of its profits in training, and this is now paying dividends. Clients, like Skanska and their recent award to the Byrne Bros. business, are beginning to recognise Byrne Group for its trained and competent workforce.
