SCOPE OF WORK

A refurbishment and fit out project to create high quality facilities for mobility impaired residents and day users.

Ellmer Construction acted as main contractor for the three phase project and called on the expertise of two further Byrne Group members. Byrne Bros completed all drainage, substructure and concrete works, whilst Touchwood Specialist Joinery supplied the doors, wardrobes and sundries.

Works included the conversion of the existing Holland Hibbert Hall into a two-storey building, consisting of eighteen bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, two specialist bathrooms, a staff lounge and sluice rooms. Works also included the refurbishment of existing offices, staff toilets, corridors and disabled toilets. The existing bedrooms, bathrooms and offices were demolished and the area converted into a multi-purpose hall, a specialist physiotherapy room and new main reception.

Ellmer’s Construction Manager, Joe Halpin, was awarded the 2005 CIOB Construction Manager of the Year gold medal in the 'refurbishment and fit out under £3M' category, for his outstanding effort in delivering the project on budget, on time and to the total satisfaction of the client and students, whilst the buildings were in occupation.
