August 2004 saw the completion of the Queen Elizabeth's Foundation Development Centre in Leatherhead, Surrey. The Development Centre will help give young people with severe disabilities the skills they need to lead an independent lifestyle. To raise funds for the newly refurbished Development Centre, the Queen Elizabeth's Foundation, in conjunction with Ellmer Construction, organised a charity fundraiser in the form of a Sporting Dinner at the prestigious Caf?oyal, in July 2004. In continuation of it’s support for the charity, Ellmer Construction, led by Tony Dowle and his dedicated team, assisted with the preparation and sponsorship of the event. Hosted by the captivating and witty sports commentator, Ian Robertson, and backed by retired England Rugby legend, Jason Leonard, the event raised in excess of £60,000. Surrey and England Cricketer, Alec Stewart and Geoff Miller were among the guests who attended, the majority of whom were friends and colleagues of Ellmer Construction. The dedication of Joe Halpin and those who worked tirelessly on the Queen Elizabeth's Foundation project, to ensure that the works were completed on time and within budget, was recognised at the esteemed Construction Manager of the Year Awards in October 2005. Joe won Gold in the category of refurbishment and fit out under £3 million for his involvement with the project. Ellmer Construction will continue its charitable work for the Queen Elizabeth's Foundation, having already made plans to return for the second year running, in December, to erect a Christmas tree in the grounds at Leatherhead.
