Congratulations go out to our award winning Health & Safety Department and to the Construction Department who have embraced the positive changes made by the safety team so well that we have picked up further awards in the past 12 months.
On 18th May 2005, Jo Strahan collected a RoSPA bronze award at the Birmingham Hilton on behalf of Ellmer Construction. The award ceremony was held to coincide with a Health & Safety Expo at the NEC Birmingham. To receive this award, Ellmer had to prove that our accident statistics were below the national average and detail our Management System for health and safety for a subsequent audit. Our systems passed the audit with flying colours. In 2006, our team will be aiming for a silver award, and in 2007 gold is our objective. On 20th May 2005, members of our Health & Safety Department Michael Hewlett and Jo Strahan (and partners), collected a British Safety Council International Safety Award at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London, on behalf of Ellmer Construction. David Ballard, Director General of the British Safety Council, commented “ The International Safety Awards highlight organisations that demonstrate commitment to health and safety. They are a mark of a proven and significant achievement in safety standards. By making safety an important feature of everyday work practice, Ellmer Construction is reducing accidents and ill health, while improving productivity and profitability”. To receive a BSC International Safety Award we again had to prove that our accident statistics were below the national average, as well as prove the implementation and success of two safety initiatives launched in the previous 12 months. The two initiatives chosen were our mobile CSCS Compliance System and the ‘New Roads and Street Works Acts’ courses for all our managers. May 2005 |
